Besides the hard work of organizing the tournament -- scheduling teams, umps, stocking the concession stand, and praying for good weather -- there's
also the maintenance of the fields and grounds while the tournament is being held. Shown here are Classics' Nikki Marroni, Ashley Goldsberry and Coach Frankart
raking a field between games.
Shown at left are Mary Beckham and Kim Frankart during a rare "quiet moment" at
the concession stand. Either Mrs. Frankart or Mrs. Beckham (or both) were there at least an hour early to unlock the gates, set-up stock, ice down pop and water, hang signs and
ready the stand for the duration of the day. It was not a rare occasion to see the Frankart's van bolting down
Route 256 as Mrs. Frankart went shopping for more stock. Mrs. Carol Smith helped by scheduling parents to work the
stand during regular games and this big COFL tournament.
If the parents and Classics weren't raking a field or lining it, helping in the stand, sweeping dugouts between games, running a scoreboard, or doing a 'garbage run',
they were probably cleaning out under the bleachers, retrieving a ball in an overhead net, checking the bathrooms, umping, or selling tournament t-shirts.
We received dozens and dozens of compliments daily on this tournament. Our answer before scurring off to retrieve a wayward ball or run for more ice... "We have a wonderful group of parents on this team!"
