Classics Play at Toledo Shows Promise of Things to Come
The Classics White Team, a first year organization, played in our first
tournament ever in the Toledo Pre-Season Classic. We came away with a 1-3
record, but were competitive in every game. Our loses were by 3 runs or
less. Considering that we are basically a 7th grade team and with eight 12
year olds playing in the 14 and under age division, our performance was very
encouraging. Our future looks promising as we mature into a top-notch team.
Way to go Classics!!!
Leading the way offensively at Toledo was Nikki Lassahn, Brittany Stanley,
and Teryn Pirwitz each with 4 hits a piece. Teryn had 2 triples and 4 lead
off on-bases. Teryn, Nikki, and Brittany Miller had 3 RBIs each. Brittany
Stanley got on base nearly .700 percent of the time she went to battle.
Defensively, Alicia-Rae Rosenberg came away with 5 put outs in left field
with no errors - way to go Rae!!! We play situations very well, but loss
focus at times with our opponents scoring 5 or more runs in one inning in
each game. One of our new goals is to pursue staying focus for the entire
game.
Our pitching did well the first time out with Courtney Witter and Teryn
putting in some yeoman innings. Heather got our first win with Courtney
getting the save. Great job Heather and Courtney.
Nikki did a wonderful job of calling pitches from behind the plate.
Both Mackenzie Wilson and Lauren Seeds filled in very nicely as alternates -
three of our girls were finishing up soccer tournaments. We thank both
Mackenzie and Lauren and will look forward towards their play in the future
for the Classics teams.
Our parents seem to have a good time even in the sweltering heat. Some got
to experience tournament ball for the first time with its extended delays of
games as the day goes on. Mr. Seeds had to endure breakdown of his car
after our game under the lights late Saturday night. I know he and Mr.
Chandler were working on it after midnight. Mr. Seeds ended up leaving his
car for repairs and riding back with others late Sunday.
Great Job Classics and Parents,

Westerville Brings Tremendous Progress
This past weekend's brought our best performance of the season.
In our first game we played a strong team from Zanesville, the Road Runners. Their girls were big and strong when compared to our young team. We batted first and the game started badly when one of own girls hit a freakish spinning foul ball that ricochet into our dugout after hitting a fence post and smashed into Heather's ear sending her to St. Ann's Hospital. Fortunately for Heather the injury was not critical, but she will have some mending to do. Nikki scored in the first inning, but we were not able get any more runs in our losing battle. Courtney keep the game close in her pitching effort and we played strong defense. All in all it was a good game for us. The final score was 4 -1.
Our bats exploded in balanced offensive attack in the second game against the Marion Rebels. Both Courtney and Nikki went 2 for 3 and scored two runs each. RBIs were collected by Courtney, Kendra, Alicia-Rae, Lindy, Kellie, and Jackie. Teryn pitched superbly in route to her first win and our defense was great. The entire team played smartly with no mental errors. The base running was flawless as well. We logged our 3rd win of the season with a final score of 8 - 4.
In the last game of the tournament, we went against the perennial power house Lasers Silver Team. They pitched their number one ace Grace. Kendra got to experience Grace's super change-up first - we all gain some humility with that one. The Classics again amazed their parents, us coaches and the Lasers themselves as the game was talked about at the tournament front office later that night. Courtney kept the Lasers in check most of the game with another good pitching effort. We scored against Grace when Kendra started the fourth with a base on balls, Nikki then layed down a superb sacrifice bunt to move Kendra to second, and Courtney brought Kendra home with a clutch single to left center - just like the text book says. Our outfield kept the Lasers to only one extra base hit. And Nikki nailed her first base runner of the weekend by throwing out a Laser out at second. The final score was 7 - 1.
Ladies, Coach Lehosit, Rosenberg, and myself congratulate you all on a fantastic weekend of ball playing - it was enjoyable watching you all having fun playing your hearts out. Parents, we want to thank you for all the encouragement and compliments that were given this weekend - it is appreciated.
Classics Rock!!!

This week end tournament started on a very positive note as the Classics White Team beat Grove City in their own tournament on Friday night. Courtney , in combination with Nikki calling the pitches from behind the plate, pitched a 2 hitter in route to the team's first shutout of the year. Teryn lead a balanced scoring attack with a triple and 3 RBIs. We played our best defense of the year with no errors. It was our best team effort season to date. The final score was 6-0. But our success soon eroded for the rest of the weekend as our defense went sour and we ran into some good teams. We lost to Lady Rebels,15 -2, in first game on Saturday. In our second Saturday game we lost to Lady Vikes 10-6 with one of parents, Mrs. Stanley, going to the emergency room when a foul ball struck her in the head - she got some stitches and broken finger (used her hand in an attempt to protect her head). On Sunday we lost our final game to North Union 14-0.
Coach FeltonThis was our best tournament of the season.
In our first game, Courtney in combination with stellar defense pitched her second shutout of the season. We beat Thornville 8-0 with a very balanced scoring attack lead by Kendra 's 3 for 4 batting effort. Kellie , Laura, Kendra, Teryn, and Brittany Stanley all had on-base averages of over 500. Lindy, Jackie, Nikki, Kendra, and Courtney had 2 or more stolen bases We had no errors - Great Job Classics.
In our next game, we played the Lancaster Thunder, who we would also end up playing later again in the tournament. Overall, Teryn pitched a good game, but got off to bad start by walking the first two batters, both runners scored later in the inning. Lancaster would score 4 more times. Our bats went silent as we lost 6 - 3.
Heather pitched against Maysville in our third game of Saturday. She pitched superbly enroute to her 3rd victory of the season. Kellie had her best game of the year at the plate as she batted 677. Again we a had very balanced offensive attack with a team batting average of .444 and a on-base average of 735. Our defense was stellar again with only one error. The final score was 16-5.
We started Sunday morning with a win over a well coached Minford team by a score of 7-2. Courtney limited Minford to 2 runs for her 3rd win of the season. Nikki went 2 for 3 while we maintained a balance offensive effort with Nikki, Courtney, Jackie, Kelly, and Brittany Miller all having an on-base averages of over 500.
After ending pool play we again had to play Minford in a semifinal game. Our stellar defensive team went out to lunch for the first two innings of game as we committed 8 of our game 10 errors. The first inning also resulted in Heather who was pitching being injured - in a play at home, she tagged out a sliding Minford player while tearing ligaments in her thumb and up her arm. Teryn came in to pitch a strong 3-1/3 innings. After the first 2 innings, we were loosing 11-4. We keep chipping away through a full seven inning game to win 16-14. Courtney finished the last three innings to ensure the win. Offensively, Laura, Nikki, Kellie, Teryn, and Lindy had two hits each. Teryn also had 3 RBIs. Great comeback ladies.
We're in our first championship game as we get ready to play Lancaster under the lights on Sunday evening. The tournament was played in the mid nineties all weekend, so night time was refreshing. But our bats got hotter as we had a team average of a stunning 542 and an on-base average of 706 - we scored 12 runs in the first two innings - what an effort!!! Brittany Miller's double in the first inning seem to ignite the afterburners - Brittany went 3 for 4. Other offensive notables were Courtney, Nikki, and Teryn, each with 2 hits. 11 of 12 batters had on-base-averages of 500 or better. Courtney was stellar in her 5th win of the season striking out 8 Thunder players. Our defense played great in a fantastic team effort. Final Score: 14-6.
